Do you want to start a blog or maybe you have questions about it? If so – you’re in the right place.
In this post, I’ll show you exactly how to create your own blog, no technical experience required.
There are many reasons to start a blog, but how to start a blog? is the big challenge that faces all aspiring bloggers.
This how-to guide contains what I learned and is for those who want step-by-step instructions in an easy and simple format.
6 Easy Steps to Start A Blog
There are a few simple steps that you will need to complete to start your blog:
- Decide what to blog about
- Choose your blogging platform
- Pick a domain name and find a hosting
- Configure your blog with WordPress
- Design & use your blog
- Start creating useful content that serves readers
Here are my easy-to-follow steps to get start a self-hosted WordPress blog, no technical experience required.
Step 1: Decide what to blog about
Blogging about something that you enjoy.
Your blog should be related to the product(s) or service(s) that you provide or cause you promote for your business/company/organization.
The goal for any blog is to become the go-to resource for its topic or niche.
So, you’re an individual, you have more flexibility when choosing a topic.
Step 2: Choose a blogging platform
If you want to blog, you need a blogging platform.
There are many blogging platforms available but in my mind to choose from. WordPress, Blogger, Squarespace, Wix and Weebly are a few.
All have pros and cons, but WordPress is by far the most popular (source), and for good reason. It’s flexible, functional and has a large community of users who share tools and ideas.
I would set up straight away on a WordPress.org site, and I highly
recommend you do too.
If you choose WordPress, you have two options: hosted or self-hosted.
Hosted WordPress blogs, sometimes called WordPress.com blogs, are free but limit your income potential.
Self-hosted WordPress blogs, sometimes called WordPress.org blogs, cost a little money but give you much more control, and do not limit your income potential.
Alright, let’s get set up!
Step 3: Pick a domain name and find a hosting
A domain is a web address. For example, www.gocoxsbazar.com is my domain name.
Choose a Domain For the next step of starting your blog you’ll need a domain name so that you have a home for your blog online.
On the other hand, for your blog to be online you need server space. You get server space from a hosting company like namecheap.com or bluhost.com or siteground.com. I also highly recomment these for domain name or a host.
For new domains, any host company takes 2-24 hours for your chosen domain to become fully registered. Go ahead and start working on your site.
Step 4: Configure your blog with WordPress
Now, getting started with WordPress.
If you’ve gone with Bluehost or Namecheap as your domain and hosting provider, installing
WordPress is super simple. Also they have a 24 hours live chat support system
which enables you to ask questions of their support team
Once you’ve completed this process, you now have a WordPress blog installed! You
started a blog! Congratulations – you’re almost there!
Step 5: Design & use your blog!
Congratulations! You’re the proud owner of a self-hosted WordPress site.
- Change your permalinks.
- Change your username from “Admin” to something more secure.
- Activate your domain. And find the appropriate welcome email and click the button inside to complete the activation process.
- Change your domain from HTTP to HTTPS.
You can switch to a different theme once you’re set up and more familiar with WordPress.
There are many resources to choose free design themes on Internet. But I highly recommend you
about investing in a ‘premium
theme’ to unlock the all the theme resources for your blog.
I use GeneratePress theme. This is one of the most influential themes today for its unique feature! Such as Site Library, Colors, Typography, Elements, Woocommerce, Menu plus, Spacing, blog control, Secondary Navigation, Backgrouds, Section control, Disabel Elements, Copyright, Import/Export options, world class support by 24/7 and so on!
6. Start creating useful content that serves readers
All rights! By now hopefully you’ve got your domain, hosting, have installed WordPress
and have your theme installed. You have started a blog.
But you’re not a blogger
until you start creating some content for your blog! There is a saying that Content is King! So you have to publish a good contents for your readers about your selected niche topics!
By the way, for your blog there are two types of content in
WordPress – ‘Pages’ and ‘Posts’.
With the above settings adjusted, your blog is ready to go! Now It is time to write your blog posts.
